The upstream raw material market and the downstream textile manufacturing are closely linked. The vigorous development of the textile industry in Southeast Asian countries such as Cambodia has provided a broad market space for China's PTA exports. PTA, as a core raw material for polyester fibers, bottle chips and other products, is a key upstream link in the textile industry chain. China, with its abundant production capacity, has become a major exporter of PTA globally.
In March 2026, China's PTA export volume reached 311,300 tons. The export destinations were mainly concentrated in neighboring Asian regions such as India, Vietnam, Egypt, Russia and Bangladesh. The combined export volume to the top five markets accounted for over 80%, indicating a relatively high market concentration.
By market, India rose to become the top destination for China's PTA exports in March, with an export volume of approximately 112,000 tons, a significant increase of 96,700 tons from 15,300 tons in February, representing a month-on-month growth of over six times and accounting for 35.99% of the total exports in March, driven by explosive demand growth. Vietnam and Egypt ranked second and third respectively, with export volumes of 68,400 tons and 39,000 tons, accounting for 21.98% and 12.52% respectively, and they are stable core markets. Additionally, Russia and Bangladesh exported 22,700 tons and 18,600 tons respectively, accounting for 7.30% and 5.96% respectively, ranking fourth and fifth.
From the perspective of export structure, the combined share of Southeast Asia and South Asia (India, Vietnam, Bangladesh) exceeds 60%, making them the core growth engines for China's PTA exports. This trend is highly consistent with the rapid development of the textile industry in Southeast Asia - countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam, and Bangladesh have continuously expanded their textile production capacity, and their demand for polyester raw materials has been increasing. With its cost-effectiveness and geographical advantages, Chinese PTA has become the preferred supplier for local enterprises.
The deepening of industrial chain linkage continues to unleash the potential of textile cooperation between China and Cambodia.
From the perspective of industrial correlation, over 90% of the fabrics and raw materials for Cambodia's textile and garment industry are imported, with China being one of its main raw material suppliers. The steady growth of Cambodia's garment exports in the first quarter directly boosted the export demand for upstream raw materials such as PTA and polyester fibers from China; meanwhile, China's abundant raw material supply and stable production capacity have also provided a solid guarantee for the continuous expansion of Cambodia's textile industry. The two sides have formed a close symbiotic relationship in the industrial chain.
From the perspective of development prospects, as the global consumer market gradually recovers and with the added benefits of trade preferential policies in countries like Cambodia, the textile industry in Southeast Asia is expected to maintain a stable growth trend, which in turn will continuously drive the export demand for PTA and textile raw materials from China.
